IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., is the "world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology". Standards are developed with international consensus from the IEEE membership, ensuring that all interested parties give feedback and advice. There are over 900 IEEE active standards and more than 400 in development (as of December 2006). The IEEE name was originally an acronym for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. Today, it is simply known as IEEE.
