GSC - Genomic Standards Consortium

The Genomic Standards Consortium (GSC) is an open-membership organization with the goal of increasing the standardization of metadata for genomic data. They further this goal through the development and implementation of metadata standards, methods to capture and exchange genomic metadata, and approaches to harmonize metadata collection across the genomics community. It undertakes these activities through meetings and working groups. GSC was founded in 2005.

To date, GSC has developed metadata standards for Minimal Information about Genomic Sequence (MIGS) and the related Minimal Information about Metagenomic Sequences (MIMS). These standards are being extended to environmental sequences in the Minimal Information about Environmental Sequence (MIENS) standard.

GSC is a community-based organization that welcomes participation from interested biologists, computer scientists, and genomic database projects.
