Metadata Discussion in QARTOD IV Report

The recently released workshop report of the QARTOD 4 workshop held in June, 2006 includes a synopsis of metadata discussions and recommendations.

Throughout the fourth QARTOD workshop, participants from various institutions discussed metadata generation and reporting in the context of quality assurance of data. Metadata experts guided discussions in each of the four areas of interest: waves, in situ currents, CTD measurements, and dissolved oxygen. In addition, participants were encouraged to a special session on metadata, which provided a background on what exactly metadata is, and how it can be useful. See Appendix E-1 of the Workshop Report for a synopsis of the discussion.

Quality Assurance of Real-Time Oceanographic Data (QARTOD) is a continuing multi-agency effort to address the quality assurance and quality control issues of the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) community.
