Finding Team Content

Team Content: General Location

On each page in the MMI site, the left hand side is used for general navigation, and user-based navigation. The right hand side normally contains general MMI site content (Events, News, Feature Stories, Who's Online), but on pages that are assigned to group, the right hand side is reserved for group navigation and activities.

On the right hand side of this page, you see general MMI content. This is because this help page is not assigned to a group. Take a look at http://marinemetadata.org/community/teams/guides, a page that has been assigned to the Guides team. Notice, in the right hand side, you see Team Content, Guides Team and Key Links.

Finding Team Content

The MMI website makes use of a controlled vocabulary to collect and organize group content. While on the homepage of a particular group, members see a box on the right hand side of the page titled "Team Content." MMI members are prompted to classify content in the Group Content Filing System for specific group(s) at the point of submission. Once content is appropriately tagged, it will appear within the Team Content for the specific group.

In practice, not all content will be tagged appropriately. This can result in "lost" content. There are three main types of "lost" content:

  1. Content IS stored in the Group Content Filing System, but NO group is assigned.
To locate this content, use http://marinemetadata.org/views/lost
  2. Content is NOT stored in the Group Content Filing System, but a group IS assigned.
To locate this content, visit the homepage of the assigned group, and click "uncategorized" in the Team Content Menu.
  3. Content is NOT stored in the Group Content Filing System, and a group is NOT assigned.
To loate this content, use general site navigation options.

In each of these cases, the "missing" content can be correctly assigned to the appropriate location in the group's section by assigning both a Group Content Filing System location, and a Group in the Audience section of the content.
