Long-Term Goals

This workshop is leading toward these long-term science objectives:

• finding science data, without knowing the vocabulary used to label it
• merging science data from different data sources
• connecting the vocabularies used to find and label science data
• creating reference vocabularies which can be used for new data sets
• allowing more sophisticated and automated discovery and analyses

Immediate Goals

The workshop's immediate goals are as follows:

• Identify recommended discovery and markup [overall domain] ontologies from exisiting [overall domain] vocabularies.
• Develop relations between the recommended discovery and markup vocabularies.
• Develop crosswalks from other vocabularies to recomended vocabularies
• Demonstrate the use of semantic mediation via ontologies with a web service application
