Domain Definition
The [name of domain] domain team at the [dates] workshop in [City, State] will focus on mapping [domain] related terms between existing vocabularies.
[Potentially, include more details about the domain.]
At the workshop
On the first day, the group [more details...]
- [details...];
Workshop Goals
- modify and agree upon domain description (above)
– generate a list of base terms on which to focus vocabulary mapping - identify any additional source vocabularies beyond those already identified
- map as many terms as possible across source vocabularies
- identify remaining challenges (specific to this domain as well as the entire project)
This workshop also provides an opportunity to continue building a community of professionals dedicated to making progress in an area which is critical to [overall domain] science research. The successful development and subsequent adoption of a shared vocabulary will be crucial to [overall domain] research data management efforts especially in support of trans-disciplinary synthesis and modeling projects.
References
Raw materials used by the team may be stored and viewed in the references folder.
Ontologies selected by the team will be published either in the [sponsoring organization/group] ontologies folder (for ontologies created from existing vocabularies maintained at the MMI site for public use), or the local ontologies spreadsheet (for work in progress which is not ready for publication).
If a vocabulary is not in an ontology form, please send an email to [email address], so the requested vocabulary will be converted into an ontology. The email should contain:
- The name of the vocabulary,
- Direct URI to the vocabulary (e.g., an FTP file) or the attached vocabulary in ASCII format, with tab separated or comma separated values,
- URL of the organization which created the vocabulary,
- URL of the page which describes the vocabulary,
- Name and email of the person responsible for that vocabulary, and
- Additional notes about that vocabulary (e.g., limitations, maturity state, etc.)
Notes and Reports
[host organization/project] encourages workshop participants to keep notes on ontology technical difficulties and challenges which could be better met. Both of these may be kept in the notes folder. We propose using the web site to maintain these materials during the meeting (see the links below for the templates), but you can also document them offline and add them to the site later.
Notes on vocabulary mappings will be incorporated into the ontology wherever possible, and referenced by the ontology otherwise. (The mapping tool will allow us to create notes and metadata about the created mappings).
