GCOOS Data Portal Overview

GCOOS has received funding for one year to start developing a centralized data portal for GCOOS data. The focus has been on:

• facilitating machine-to-machine interoperability
• providing a human interface
• near real-time data
• portability
• providing E/O component

The centralized data portal will transition to a Regional Operations Center in the future.

Critical issues have been:

• Common Dictionary/Vocabulary
• Web Services service interface selection
• Metadata content standards
• Standards-based machine accessible catalog

Recent activities have included:

• SEACOOS CDL - Local Nodes Vocabulary
• Assessment of other RAs - (RA-DMP)
• Self-assessment of local data nodes
• System architectures, IT skillsets
• Use Case, UML, DoDaf
