ISO 3166 Country Codes
ISO 3166 is the most widely used standard for coding country names. Also, contains information on ISO 3166-3 for coding formerly used country names.
ISO 3166 uses a formal, two-letter code for coding names of countries and their subdivisions. ISO 3166-3 is the code for formerly used country names, uses 4-letter alphabetical codes (the first two of which were the original country code).
