"Metadata for Ocean Scientists" Tutorial at Ocean Sciences 2008

Event Description

MMI proposes to hold free metadata tutorials that are divided into 30-minute modules at the Ocean Sciences 2008 meeting. The modules will be: Introduction to Metadata; Introduction to Controlled Vocabularies, Taxonomies and Ontologies; Submitting Metadata to a Clearinghouse; and Metadata Best Practices. Two modules will be held during each lunch break on Tuesday and Wednesday. All four modules will be provided on Thursday evening.

The goal of the Semantic Sensor Networks workshop is to develop an understanding of the ways semantic
web technologies can contribute to the growth, application and deployment of large-scale sensor networks on
the one hand, and the ways that sensor networks can contribute to the emerging semantic web, on the other.
The workshop provides an inter-disciplinary forum to explore and promote these concepts.

Earth & Space Science informatics (geoinformatics of eGY) bodies and programs are growing up all around the world in response to three drives (i) modern ICT capabilities, (ii) demand for ready access to data and services in order to tackle modern cross-disciplinary, complex problems as well as traditional ones, (iii) greater readiness by governments to support a science information commons to serve societal benefit area.
