ECSA 44 Symposium

The symposium is aimed at promoting a fluid exchange between specialists of different disciplines and from both hemispheres, working on estuarine and coastal issues. Data from in-situ or remote sensing devices forms the basis for analyzing gradual processes, such as increasing drought, water shortages, or rising sea levels. The Sensor Web presents a paradigm in which the Internet is evolving into an active sensing macro instrument. Based on internationally adopted standards, the Sensor Web accomplishes the necessary requirements to ensure interoperability among its various components. Sensor Web software components and services work interactively in arbitrary application domains.

Global Coral Reef Environmental Observatory Network (CREON) Integration Meeting

CREON is a grass roots effort to form a community consisting of marine biologists, ecologists, computer scientists and application engineers, with common interests in understanding coral reef ecosystems. CREON activities include workshops, joint research, student exchange, and postdoctoral research. Distributed sensor systems have become a highly active research area due to their potential for providing diverse new capabilities. Such systems allow intelligent dense monitoring of physical environments, which makes them immensely useful for data collection and analysis. The focus of the conference is on distributed computing issues in large-scale networked sensor systems (including algorithms, applications, and systematic design techniques and tools), but networking-related contributions that support high level abstractions are also welcome.

major role in consolidating the plans for a comprehensive ocean
observing system, able to deliver systematic global information about
the physical environment of the oceans. For the first time in history,
