The Science Advisory Panel remains unformed pending development of a compelling science use case that MMI can take responsibility for enabling, as well as other actions from the Strategic Planning meeting last year.

The Technical Advisory Panel is somewhat smaller than originally anticipated, but further contacts will be made in coming months. The breadth and depth of participation is highly encouraging.

The Science Advisory Panel remains unformed. Attempts to identify a scientist's use case exploiting MMI have not yet been fruitful (although use cases benefitting science have been identified).

After internal discussion, MMI has decided on the activities needed to start work with the Science Advisory Panel. Unfortunately, this activity has to wait until additional resources -- notably, the replacement technical staff member -- are available.

The Technical Advisory Panel email sent at the beginning of March was eaten by the mail server, since the sender (John) was not on the email list. This problem has been corrected.
Several suggestions suggested making the monthly report more relevant by providing better context, and this will be attempted in this and future reports.

Matthew Arrott of University of California, San Diego has agreed to join the Technical Advisory Panel, bringing its membership to 15. The membership roster has been updated accordingly.
Recent monthly reports have generated a number of suggestions and comments, indicating it has been effective in communicating MMI and community directions.

MMI submitted a very strong sensor metadata proposal (to NSF INTEROP) with the Alliance for Coastal Technologies, and received a dozen letters of support from leading community organizations. MMI will begin laying the groundwork for this activity in coming months, as it works on associated tasks like platform and sensor ontologies.

In preparation for the MMI Planning Meeting, Vocabulary Mapping Workshop, and various other events, the MMI Poetry kits were developed! Each kit contains magnetic words appropriate for marine metadata interoperability projects (scientific and/or technical terminology), and an MMI Project logo. These kits will be given away as "MMI tchotskies" at conferences, workshops, etc.

The "Community Presence" group on the MMI website is also undergoing a cleanup. Watch for details in the following months.

MMI followed its just-adopted collaboration approval process in consultations with multiple proposers on the ORION CI Implementing Organization proposal this month. Any resulting agreements will be announced once the award is announced.

It will probably not be possible for MMI to collaborate with all the proposers to the NOAA CSC solicitation who ask us. MMI is likely to contact NOAA CSC to ask for help in identifying appropriate strategies for facilitating IOOS DMAC and community metadata strategies.

MMI's poster on sensor interoperability was well received by many community members. Training sessions were well received and improved, and many good contacts were made from the Biological-Chemical Oceanography Data Management Office booth. A collaborative workshop with BCO-DMO was discussed and will be considered further.

The NOAA solicitation for Letters of Intent for data management projects for IOOS attracted considerable attention, but none of the parties interested in MMI collaborations contacted MMI with enough advance notice to come to a formal agreement. In each case the parties were encouraged to mention that they were discussing a collaboration with MMI, with the understanding that formal collaboration discussions could begin if NOAA requested a formal proposal.

Planning for the AGU Fall Meeting (December, 2008) continued, and was formalized into a webpage.

In addition to this activity, all "Outreach Documents" were collected into this newly formed "Community Presence" Group. This group will become the working place for all workshop and conference presentations, posters, and activities.
