SWING (geospatial semantic web services)

Semantic Web services Interoperability for Geospatial decision making: semantic infrastructure for geospatial web services.

SWING is a European project targeting necessary semantic infrastructure for geospatial web services.

Information culled from the home page.

SWING aims at deploying Semantic Web Service (SWS) technology in the geospatial domain. In particular, we address two major obstacles that must be overcome for SWS technology to be generally adopted, i.e. to reduce the complexity of creating semantic descriptions and to increase the number of semantically described services. ...The objective of SWING is to provide an open, easy-to-use SWS framework of suitable ontologies and inference tools for annotation, discovery, composition, and invocation of geospatial web services.

SWING is a project of the Information Society Technologies (IST) Program for Research, Technology Development & Demonstration under the Sixth Framework Programme of the European Commission.

Scheduled to run from 2006 to 2009.
