Multilingual Fisheries Thesaurus Project

Enhanced Online Multilingual Fisheries and Aquatic Thesaurus System

In December 2001, the draft work plan for the project was agreed and a Letter of Agreement was drawn up between FAO/Fisheries Department and SIFAR which detailed the resource requirements; work plan; time lines; and terms of reference necessary in order to take the project forward. Also in December 2001, GILW engaged a consultant (Aldo Gangemi, Institute of Psychology, National Research Council, Rome) to assist with the development of knowledge representation systems as vocabularies, thesauri, categorization schemes and ontologies in the subject areas of FAO and, in particular, the "Agricultural Ontology Service" proposal. As part of the work under this consultancy, a report is in preparation on the required methodology to produce a prototype of the conceptual integration of thesauri and taxonomies in the fishery domain(1).
