Integrated Ocean Observing Systems (IOOS)

IOOS is an overarching system to integrate U.S. ocean observing systems.

Description:

The Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) is a system of systems that routinely and continuously provides quality controlled data and information on current and future states of the oceans and Great Lakes from the global scale of ocean basins to local scales of coastal ecosystems. It is composed of a global and coastal components. It is a multidisciplinary system designed to provide data in forms and at rates required by decision makers to address important societal goals.

Ocean.US runs the national office for IOOS. Most data management related activities of IOOS are handled by the IOOS Data Management and Communications Steering Committee.

The Data Management and Communications (DMAC) Metadata Expert Team is reponsible for recommending metadata standards (protocols, interfaces, formats, ....) and best practices relevant to IOOS DMAC, and to propose development of new standards and tools.
