Global Biodiversity Information Facility Taxonomic Network
The goal of GBIF is to make biodiversity information and data readily available through the internet. Their project uses Species 2000 names (from ITIS) to populate their database.
The Global Biodiversity Information Facility network provides users access to millions of biodiversity records from over 200 data providers. The project uses Species 2000 Catalogue of Life (Species 2000 uses ITIS) as the authority on taxonomic classifications, especially for records without the full set of species, genus, family, order, class, phylum and kingdom.
