FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata

A content standard applicable to any geospatial data

Description

CSDGM is applicable to any geospatial data. Its goal is to define the information required by a prospective user to determine the availability of a set of geospatial data, the fitness the set of geospatial data for an intended use, and the means of accessing the set of geospatial data, and to enable successful transfer. It was developed in response to Presidential Executive Order 12906, "Coordinating Geographic Data Acquisition and Access: The National Spatial Data Infrastructure".

Notes: CSDGM is required of all federal agencies and of projects/programs funded through US federal funds, and so it is quite widely used.
