CMECS Habitat Classification System
Coastal and Marine Ecological Classification Standard system describing the habitats of the estuaries, coasts and oceans of North America.
The CMECS habitat classification system (from NatureServe and NOAA) describes North American estuaries, coasts, and oceans. The system is divided into a branched hierarchy, parent levels are Regime, Formation, Zone, Macrohabitat, Habitat, and Biozone. Each level has description and scale associated with its classification.
