Site Organization
The core functions of the site are to provide information on metadata standards, projects, tools and events, to provide guidance, and to help foster the community of people working in marine metadata. Content is organized according to the taxonomies developed for the MMI site. When a user adds content, s/he assigns keywords. In many cases, the menus and web pages are driven by this selection of keywords.
The blue block at the top left of each page, under the MMI banner, is the main navigation menu containing links to most of the site's content. The items in the main navigation block with an arrow to the right are collections of smaller groupings of material. For example, the Community button will take you to a page that includes links to sections "Committees and Groups", "Discussion Forums", "Professional Opportunities", "Presentations and Papers", "MMI Workshops", and "MMI Membership." In most browsers, mousing over these menu items will reveal any available sub-menus.
MMI Guides give guidance on many aspects of marine metadata, particularly for beginners.
MMI References are resources that describe vocabularies, standards, ontologies, tools, projects, and organizations. These can be viewed by subject title found in the main menu (Tools, Projects, etc.), or searched according to reference type or topic (Search MMI References).
