Maximizing Site Functionality

Tips and Tricks for using exciting features of the MMI website

There are many new and exciting features available on the MMI site, most of which can be of use to MMI teams. As additional tools become available on the site, we will be adding "highlights" to this page. If you know of a tool or module that might be of broad use to MMI team work, please let us know!

What's the latest?

If you want to link to the latest group agenda, minutes, documents, monthly reports, etc, there's an easy way to generate a dynamic link! Go to the main page for the item in question, and append a "latest" to the end of the URL.

For example, the Technical Team Minutes are available here: http://marinemetadata.org/node/2298/documents/Minutes
To get to the most recent minutes, use this URL: http://marinemetadata.org/node/2298/documents/Minutes/latest

Feeds for Group Content

Want to stay current on group content, without monitoring the website? Use the RSS feed available on many "main pages."

Creating Team Pages

Want to customize your homepage? Or, are you working on a project and want to generate a special page for this "sub-project"? Check out the "Pages" tab in your group section. See "Customizing a Team Section" for more information.

Double-Dipping Content

If you have content that is appropriate for the general MMI website, but you also want it to be available within your team section, double-tag the content! You can add both a group/group content filing system assignment, and a general keywords assignment. That will ensure that one piece of content appears both in the Group section, and on the general webpage.

Have something interesting that you want to share with the community? In addition to tagging the item with your group information, add "MMI Specific > Community News". This will prompt the site to add the item to the "News" section of the site.

Writing a Book

If your group is preparing content that will fit into an organized structure, let us know! It might be ideal for your team to "write a book" for the MMI site!  For examples of books, see the MMI Guides
