MMI Reference Taxonomy

Reference Types and Reference Topics

The pages that describe projects, vocabularies, content standards, ontologies, and tools are classified as MMI References on our site. This content type uses a two-part taxonomy to allow users to see listings of references sorted into main categories. The keyword taxonomy is a separate list (or hierarchy) of terms that is used on all content types. Understanding these taxonomies is critical when adding references, to ensure that your content will be seen - where it belongs - on the site.

There are three main reference types, "Initiatives", "Vocabularies and Standards", and "Tools," with subtypes for each that provide more information about the reference. These top level categories are a convenience that allows us to manage the many types of references, and permits us to represent the great variety of references with very few menu items.
