Society of Conservation GIS 2008 Conference

08/12/2008 - 00:00
08/15/2008 - 00:00
Explore the application of GIS in conservational projects - using metadata to drive mapping and data presentation

Conference theme: Our Changing World

GIS tools provide a mechanism to access, analyze and display distributed data sets. Much of the functionality built into GIS programs, like ESRI tools, are dependant on accurate and interoperable metadata. In the GIS world, geospatial metadata is particularly important.

To see more about accessing and using data sets using metadata, see the pre-conference workshops:

  • Workshop 1: Introduction to Spatial Analyst for ArcGIS
  • Workshop 2: Marine GIS: Conservation, Management and GeoDatabases
  • Workshop 3: Using the USGS Hydrological Units Database

From the conference website: As members of the Conservation GIS community we experience change on a daily basis. From new software, hardware and analytical techniques for achieving our conservation goals, to the changing and emerging conservation challenges we work to overcome and find solutions for. At this year's conference, we will consider the changes of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
