The ICAN‐Americas 2010 meeting will bring together key personnel from North and South
America who are developing, maintaining, and/or evaluating a coastal web atlas (CWA) for their specific political area or region. This workshop will begin the process of sharing information and coordinating current activities in the field of CWA in the Americas, as it is being done in Europe. Of special interest to US participants is the meeting’s grassroots theme of building NOAA’s “Digital Coast” by way of our CWAs. Four additional and important emphases of the meeting
are: (1) regional, Great Lakes outreach; (2) national outreach to isolated/unknown CWAs; (3) training elements so that participants take away tangible products/knowledge; and (4) continuation of internal ICAN organizational business.
Meeting Objectives:
• Participants share knowledge of existing programs, projects, and capabilities for CWA
• Participants learn about technical and management best practices for CWA
• Participants learn about ICAN and how it may benefit their CWA activities
• Participants learn about other national and regional activities that can support or benefit from CWA
• Participants develop ideas on how to integrate CWA within the US and internationally via ICAN
