3rd Ecoterm Meeting

The Ecoterm Group is a working group of the ECOinformatics Initiative (http://ecoinfo.eionet.eu.int/). The group was formed in April 2004 by parties interested in working together on environmental terminologies, their integration, and their use with semantic web technologies. The 3rd Ecoterm Meeting will be hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations on 17-18 2006. The program will focus on the identification of well-defined semantic relationships in the environmental domain. Discussions during previous Ecoterm meetings (2004 in Geneva and 2005 in Berlin) identified the need for more specific relationships when moving from traditional thesaurus and classification structures to richer structures that would better support semantic web technologies. The program will also provide updates on activities that resulted from previous meetings, presentations on key projects, and progress on the development of standards and tools that support the interchange of environmental terminologies and their use in the future semantic-web.
