DBCP 2010 Scientific and Technical Workshop

The Scientific and Technical Workshop of the DBCP will take place on 27 September 2010 at the William Speirs Bruce lecture theatre and hosted by the Scottish Association for Marine Sciences (SAMS), Oban, Scotland, United Kingdom.

As in previous years, the workshop will precede the DBCP annual session that will be held at the same venue, from 28 to 30 September.

The regular themes of the Workshop include

  1. technical development formarine observation systems;
  2. operational practices and enhancements,
  3. applications of collected data.

In addition to the regular themes, this year’s workshop will have a major focus on Standardization and interoperability between marine observing system
components.  Topics of interest are:

  1. Integration of in situ and satellite ocean observing systems (e.g.high resolution SST);
  2. Observing practices, including traceability to standards and instrument inter-comparison;
  3. Polar observations and their applications;
  4. Collection of instrument/platform metadata from data buoys.


Material presented at the Workshop may be sourced from any part of the globe, but topics of relevance to the host region (Arctic, North Atlantic, North Sea, Baltic) are particularly welcomed.

If you wish to make (a) presentation(s) at the workshop, please inform Dr. Bill Burnett  and Mr. David Meldrum with the title(s) and abstract(s) of your presentation(s), by 31 July 2010.

After consideration on the submitted abstracts, the Workshop Coordinators (Dr. Burnett and Mr. Meldrum) will notify presenters of the acceptance and workshop programme, with further requirements if needed.

Please note that all presenters will be required to submit full papers by 15 September 2010, in order to publish the Workshop proceedings (on CD-ROM) in due course.
