Now the longterm observation using submarine cables have drew world-wide attention, and some ambitious projects have initiated. We think it would be beneficial to hold another SSC workshop next year as many developments are going underway.
The SSC workshop will cover both scientific and technical topics. It would offer a good opportunity for both scientists and engineers to meet together and exchange information and deepen communication.

The Unidata Program Center is pleased to announce its 2006 Software Training Workshop. The workshop features old favorites such as McIDAS, GEMPAK, and LDM; our newest visualization package, the IDV; and three sessions newly developed for the 2006 workshop—netCDF for Developers, netCDF Java Developers, and THREDDS Data Server Administration.

The purpose of the workshop will be to inventory and describe the problems that exist and methods that are employed in automatic harvesting of data and metadata. The goal is to produce a review of the subject area as a guide to practitioners and to encourage a community of interest related to advancing this important process for the future of integrative science.
