Web Team—June 2009
June saw a major upgrade made to the marinemetadata.org site, including the addition of major new functionality.
The Drupal core was updated for the first time in over six months, with custom patches ported over to the new version. Major cleanup was made to the codebase as well, making it so that updating the core in the future should be a much simpler process.
New functionality was introduced to improve the Rich Text Editor that the site uses and, in fact, users now have a choice to use the RTE, a Wiki markup, or just plain HTML. In conjunction, a new "inline diff" mode is provided, allowing users to see changes between node revisions inline instead of side-by-side (though side-by-side is still an option).
Finally, when new users create an account, they are now properly notified that the account is being held pending administrator approval. No login information is included in the initial email. When the account is approved, the user gets a second message with their login information.
