Website - March 2008
All further migration from the Plone site to Drupal pages will be done on a page-by-page basis.
After generating good URLs for all the main categories of content, we created a virtual "lost and found" in the /plone directory for pages that were uncharacterized; these are being assigned meaningful locations as needed.
Some changes to the theme were implemented by our web designer, resulting in a very effective look-and-feel for the site. We learned the importance of a good back-up scheme, and a "best practices" security policy for users who have been given administrative privileges, when changes to the database configuration caused some lost information fields (these were recovered).
The web team implemented a module that creates meaningful URLs for each page based on content type and other page attributes. We redeveloped the main menus; the site permissions and workflow were tested and refined. A small group of Tech Team members has been working on the site, setting up organic groups and updating pages that had been modified on the Plone site. We used this group experience to develop and test out site help documents. We continue to track website transition activities with an integrated issues database.
With the pending departure of the web team lead, we are looking for an outside Drupal expert to help advise us on the technical details as we complete the transition to Drupal.
