Website - January 2008

The Drupal web site has a mature layout and content, and is nearing readiness as the MMI site. A full import of content is currently being performed with improvements to ""teasers"", document authorship, and taxonomy. Website transition activities are being tracked in Drupal with an issues database. The development site has temporarily moved into ""off line mode"" to prevent search engines from pointing to pages on the new site.

Two telecons were held in January to review changes that were necessary to implement to the the "demo" website presented at the American Geophysical Union meeting in San Francisco in early December. A number of "issues" were generated from these telecons and these issues have been inserted into the website transition issues database currently running on the development website at WHOI.

A team of individuals have been collaboratively updating the website and resolving these issues. Our current intent is to do a fresh import of content from the plone site to the mmi site, incorporating some of the suggestions given in the telecon. Our plan is to evaluate the "results of our labors" within the next few weeks to decide whether the site is ready to announce as a "public" presence that provides access to MMI reference materials, metadata guides, upcoming events, and other key information. MMI members that log in to the site, when it is ready, would be presented with a beta release of the internal MMI members website with additional group and content submission features enabled.
