Website - November 2007

Efforts ramped up on the web site transition (from Plone to Drupal), with progress across a significant number of technical activities. Many members of the MMI team are conributing to progress, while WHOI leads the technical development on the Drupal site. A prototype of the new site will be presented at Fall AGU. // The WHOI team completed the draft of a poster for AGU, ""MMI: Increasing Community Collaboration.""

Members of the Technical Team began adding tags to the resources on the Plone site in preparation for the next migration of web pages to Drupal, and reported back on several taxonomic improvements necessary for effective tagging. Drupal relies on taxonomic classification of content to provide its "views", which are the equivalent of Plone's "smart folders" and allow automated organization of content once it is tagged. Version 1 of a comprehensive site tagging taxonomy was used in this process.

Other Web Team members concentrated on refining the display of events, on choosing the Drupal "skin", on the navigation for the Guides section, and on the Organic Groups implementation, beginning with documents in the Steering Committee group. Technical developers also wrestled with the import of binary content such as PDFs, Excel and Powerpoint files.

Many thanks to the Tech Team for their help in tagging content!
