Website - April 2007

The web team investigated the 'drupal' content management system further, and presented some working drafts of MMI sites for the MMI team to evaluate. // A 'community news' portal was created in the existing MMI web site.

The MMI Web team has devoted considerable time to investigating the 'drupal' content management system. Drupal is an elegant realization of a community content development system, with simple installation, many advanced features, easy maintenance, and a simple user experience. This combination makes it potentially a good replacement for the existing plone implementation.

Because the existing MMI site (one with plone) has considerable content and many users and features, fairly thorough work will be required to determine if it should be replaced, and then to replace it without impacting users. The Web and Technical teams are pursuing the necessary evaluations to assess whether drupal should replace plone.

A community news portal was created on the MMI site, for announcements of general interest to the marine metadata community. This portal replaces the small window, or 'portlet', to the lower left of the page, which formally held all MMI news (internal and external). See the Community News announcement for further information or to review MMI's community news postings.
