Ontologies - August 2007
An initial community collaboration plan for developing a sensor ontology has been developed, and community involvement will be solicited. Various groups asked MMI to provide ontology services for new proposals for the NSF INTEROP solicitation. The SeaDataNet platforms list was converted to an ontology. (See also the OOSTethys report.)
The initial community collaboration plan has been constructed in response to several queries for authoritative, or at least representative, sensor vocabularies. It will be open for community comment and discussion, particularly at the first community meeting to discuss the best approach for building such an ontology. The intent is to make use of best existing knowledge of oceanographic instruments and vocabularies listing them.
