Community Presence - August 2007
MMI submitted a very strong sensor metadata proposal (to NSF INTEROP) with the Alliance for Coastal Technologies, and received a dozen letters of support from leading community organizations. MMI will begin laying the groundwork for this activity in coming months, as it works on associated tasks like platform and sensor ontologies.
MMI was involved as a sub-awardee in 4 other proposals to NSF INTEROP. None of these 4 proposals provide large infusion of funds, but all represent good connections to the community in the areas of metadata, community networks, and semantic services.
MMI's AGU presence will be strong, with at least two invited abstracts and several contributed abstracts. This will likely be the first in a series of community engagements, but we will try to take advantage of the large and diverse AGU community to get the word out on MMI.
The Integrated Ocean Observing System, and NOAA's IOOS Office, values progress in key MMI areas, and has expressed interest in facilitating MMI activities. We expect to continue discussions with those organizations about potential application of MMI solutions (workshops, references, and services) to the IOOS and NOAA missions.
