Community Presence - April 2007
The existing MMI News collection -- summarized in a window on the left side of each MMI page -- showed all news events in the MMI web site, including those primarily of interest to MMI team members. With some minor adjustments to plone and our news release process, MMI now has retargeted that portal to display news of interest to the marine metadata community. The community metadata news page will be updated by many MMI members, but most often by Caryn Neiswender of UCSD.
This change allows MMI to keep the community informed of critical events, solicit community participation in reviews and other activities of interest, and provides a 'bulletin board' for announcements from the community. Like the Events page, it also can become a regular reference for community members, drawing them back to the site on a regular basis. MMI encourages community members to submit marine metadata news as described in the Community News announcement.
MMI provided 5 collaboration letters in support of proposals to the IOOS CSC solicitation for data management solutions. While these collaborations were fewer and simpler than originally envisioned (feared?), the collaboration process appeared to be effective.
MMI continued to prepare a proposal to support vocabulary mapping needs for IOOS and other ocean observing systems, and expects to submit it shortly.
