Community Presence - February 2007

MMI discussed appropriate collaboration mechanisms for the recent NOAA CSC solicitation, to avoid being overextended by requests for collaboration. / Several opportunities for international connections have been identified, starting with attendance at the March SeaDataNet planning meetings in Italy. / Review of the North American ISO 19115 profile is a potential opportunity for connection in MMI and externally.

It will probably not be possible for MMI to collaborate with all the proposers to the NOAA CSC solicitation who ask us. MMI is likely to contact NOAA CSC to ask for help in identifying appropriate strategies for facilitating IOOS DMAC and community metadata strategies.

A large assemblage of technical and program managers will be meeting in Trieste, Italy mid-March to discuss their SeaDataNet program, a European initiative to manage data from many countries. John Graybeal of MMI has been invited to attend, and hopes to have many conversations with European leaders about advancing metadata interoperability.

The NA profile of ISO 19115 is a great opportunity for MMI to put a foot forward on metadata interoperability matters. A collaborative contribution with the IOOS DMAC Metadata Expert Team is one possible scenario. Resources to execute are likely to be an issue.
