Updates to the ontology

+ datatype properties to MeasurementCapability: value,  unitsOfMeasure

* datatype property hasProcessID (domain: Process, range: string) fixed: This is not an inverseFunctional property any more. Consistency is now OK according to Protégé 3.4 (using the Pellet reasoner). Our ontology should now be OWL DL. NOTE: However, because of a bug in the way metadata is associated to the ontology at MMI ORR, the registered ontology does not pass the OWL DL test.

To be added:

  • Class Range with the following properties:
    • unitsOfMeasure: string (functional)
    • datatype: enumeration [int, float, date, time, dateTime] (functional)
    • minimum: string (functional)
    • maximum:string (functional)
  • Note, a missing value for, say, minimum will in general mean that the minimum of the range is unknown. Does this mean the same as saying "there is no minimum" (in other words, that the missing minimum implicitly refers to a –∞ minimum)? Perhaps not; if this is the case, we may want to explicitly specify the lower bound as –∞ (in the appropriate format for the corresponding datatype).
  • Use Range in relevant classes, MeasurementCapability, OperationalRange, EnvironmentalToleranceLimit, etc.

Review of Device Ontology instantiation exercises

  • Nan is describing modules (ASIMet BPR). The ASIMet modules are described at http://uop.whoi.edu/asimet/asimet.html - on the link to the  DGE page.
  • These modules to be used by different groups. Using SensorML for module definition. Using spreadsheet and Bob M.'s example for creating the ontology instances. Will send the drafts to the list.
  • Frameworks are available for exposing relational databases as RDF and also to SensorML.
  • OWL 2: more friendly to support relational-to-ontology binding?
  • We should look at some potential RDB2RDF mapping frameworks.
