Agenda/minutes for Device Ontology Working Group meeting 2009.10.27
Agenda
- Logistics: Welcome, Minutes Review, Agenda Review, Chat Room
- Device Ontology: plan for a release
- Determine what is necessary to complete an official release of the ontology.
- Identify available resources and who shall complete which parts to complete the release.
- Determine a deadline for the release.
- Determine mechanisms to "advertise" the device ontology, which ideally should include published papers (for example, about demonstration of use, experiences, perhaps modeling challenges, etc.)
- Determine next steps, particularly in terms of strategies for integration with similar efforts in other groups, and determine focus points for the OntDev group.
- Review proposed changes to ontology
- Realm extensions (from mailing list)
- See proposed modifications to ontology

Device Ontology: plan for a release
- The discussion was mainly on item 2) Device Ontology: plan for a release , some ideas were:
- The initial release needs to include a specific application of the ontology. For example searching for several diverse systems that were used n the same time in the same geographical area (ie. shipboard sonar and a buoy mounted system for temperature and salinity).
- Need to define terms carefully as a term such as "multibeam" may have a very specific meaning and use to some people, but not to others.
- Action Items:
- Bob and Nan will each instantiate an example for a particular sensor/system that could be used for the specific example as discussed
- Luis to report on W3C and possible collaboration with them.
- A deadline for the initial release might be the Ocean Sciences 2010 meeting this February, as several team members will be presenting there.
- Luis B. via email:
- Last Saturday SURA hosted the face to face meeting of the W3C Semantic Sensor Network working group. - Folks at the meeting sort of agree to have an ontology that should align with SensorML and O&M. These will be ready in the next 2 weeks.
- More details and proposed actions in his email.
