Ontologies—December 2008

The team spent the month following up on the November workshop, pursuing the Ontology for Devices, and pursing BioPortal and Open Ontology Repository collaborations.

To facilitate feedback gathering from the participants in the MMI Ocean Observing Systems Semantic Interoperability Workshop, the team created a template for breakout group reports and an online survey for individual assessment.

Discussions continued with the BioPortal Team at Stanford University to continue fostering a mutual collaboration, which, based on the identification of common requirements, is intended to address and provide key functionalities related with an ontology repository for the two communities. The team participated in the Open Ontology Repository panel session about the state of the art in Ontology Repositories.

Ontology for Devices: The group started to incorporate a faceted search approach to enrich the process of better specifying the use cases and the device ontology itself.
