DIVE - March 2008
Recruitment for the DIVE is ongoing - additional members added from ESRI, TAMU, UCSD, USGS, and WHOI. The team developed a working draft of the definition of a tool (see below for details). Preparations continue for the initiation of the DIVE on the new Drupal site.
Draft of definition for TOOL
A tool is a computational resource that accepts an input (e.g. human-entered, automatically generated, rules-driven) and creates an output (e.g. metadata value, mapped vocabulary, quality controlled value). In the context of metadata, these computational resources will aid in the creation, publication, transmission, translation, modification or verification of metadata. Metadata tools take the form of stand-alone software, network-enabled, network-hosted and network-enhanced tools.
