CSIRO Employment: Research Scientist - Sensor Informatics

Each of CSIRO's three open positions represent an opportunity to play a leading role in Information and Communication Technology research.

CSIRO is recruiting for three positions within Tasmanian ICT Centre:

  • Software Engineer - Sensor Web Enablement
  • Post-Doctoral Fellow - Sensor Informatics
  • Research Scientist - Sensor Informatics / Sensor Web Enablement

From the Position Recruitment

The CSIRO ICT Centre is building a role for Australia as a global ICT innovator by delivering leading-edge Information and Communication Technology solutions for industry and society. The Centre has over 250 researchers across Australia working on a wide range of ICT technologies and application areas.

The CSIRO ICT Centre is expanding into Tasmania, and has established a major research facility that will work closely with Tasmanian industry, universities and the community to deliver technological solutions that further Tasmania’s economic, environmental and social goals.

The Tasmanian ICT Centre is jointly funded by the Australian Government through the Intelligent Island Program and CSIRO. The Program is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

We are seeking an early to mid career computer scientist researcher to join our Water Resource Observation Network (WRON) project team. The WRON will provide a state-of-the-art technology platform for integrated water resource management on a national scale. Our project team is focused on sensor web enablement - we are especially interested in integrating information acquired by several different sensor platforms (mobile, in-situ, space-based) for near real-time situational awareness. This includes research and development of techniques for fusing sensor observations acquired at different spatial and temporal scales, building a robust framework for near real-time, data-driven modelling of the environment, application of autonomous agent technology. This is cutting-edge science at its best with significant opportunities for local and international networking.

We expect that the successful candidate will have a PhD and be results-driven, multi-faceted and able to conduct innovative research in real-world problems. All researchers are expected to communicate the outcomes of their research to the wider scientific community.
